ministry apprenticeship program
Map is a seminary equivalency program designed to be an alternative to the traditional Masters of Divinity program. While many aspects of seminary education are worthy of retaining, the fundamental skills of ministry are often assumed, or glossed over. Some of those critical arenas are:
*devotional skills
*lifestyle issues
*spiritual formation
The MAP model tries to keep students connected to their relational circles, rather than sending them away for training. This facilitates integration into their home culture. The goal is to avoid “theoretical” learning that is disconnected from reality.
Using a med-school apprenticeship approach, MAP attempts to marry the best of academic training , with direct ministry training. The critical difference comes by providing the student with a small circle of mentors. This allows for several things:
+ utilizes “teachable moments”
+ integrates academics with real life
+ facilitates life-on-life modeling
+ students identify their specific gifts
